Life

I'm blogging from the most beautiful view that I've ever seen in Manhattan. Slept in Manhattan for the first time on Friday night. Am in a building where there are doormen, elevator men and security that won't allow you up unless you show your key or they call the person's apartment. There's central air. And gorgeous plants. There's a terrace that's begging to have a writer sit and compose a novel.

But the apartment and all its beauty has the most important piece of it missing--Allen R. Kate's great-uncle passed away last week. We got the call early Friday morning. Kate, battling her own illness, flew into superwoman mode and did the first thing her great-uncle would have wanted: began thinking about how to care for her grieving grandmother--Allen's sister.

Kate and Gram (I also call her Gram because she's adopted me in the family) have a special bond that cannot be described. They know when something's wrong with the other even though they live six hours apart. Gram helped Kate through some of the most difficult periods of her life and has been there to share some of the biggest joys.

Kate is still in the same amount of pain, has no diagnosis--just an educated guess and is on trial medication. But it isn't working. We're retuning to the Mayo Clinic in September for more tests. I know I haven't updated you all on her condition, but I was waiting to see how her body would react to the new medication. It was devastating to come home from Mayo and still not know what is wrong. We're looking forward to going back and having even more tests run. Again, I thank you all for the support. We still talk about it and it hasn't been forgotten.

I'm talking about Kate's illness in relation to her great-uncle's passing because it shows what kind of person that Kate is. She has been by her Gram's side, holding her at night, preparing to be with her at the appointments to wrap up her great-uncle's affairs all while not saying a word about her pain and trying to keep it from being visible on her face.

Her great-uncle was a war vet with a Purple Heart. He was a private, strong, intimidating, smart man who attended Harvard and traveled the world. He was a huge presence in Kate's life--a man she wanted to impress with grades, work, writing, etc. Kate lived at his apartment during the first few weeks of her time at Simon & Schuster until Ross found their first apartment in Brooklyn. Yesterday, Kate found her edit test and resume that ultimately led to her becoming an editor and now a full time freelance editor, author and co-owner of Violet & Ruby.

Allen will never see Kate's first book on the shelves, but he passed knowing his great-niece had achieved her dream.

I am in awe of Kate's strength during this time when she is also grieving and dealing with her own medical problems. She got her strength from her grandmother.

We will probably be staying on the Upper East Side for a week or two. There's much to be done, but we're all working together.

So, if you haven't said "I love you" to someone today or haven't called a friend that you've been meaning to call, do it now. Don't wait. Life can change in an instant.

The Mystery of Kate Angelella

Kate and I have recently become addicted to My Little Pony snacks. This came after a long convo about how we both had MLP collections as kids. They're just so cute and fun and pretty! Kate, however, reveal a deep dark secret! Yes, she used to bite the legs of her ponies! Totally admit--they had a certain scent that was . . . intriguing as a kid. (I, um, went through a cherry chapstick eating phase, so . . .) But it makes me heart her more!

But sooo cute! And nostalgic!

Yay, Friday!

Happy Friday, everyone!

What's everyone up to this weekend? I'll be working on the latest Canterwood book and reading. I just finished watching PRETTY LITTLE LIARS and OMG. So. Good! I've read every book except for the latest two and am re-reading the series with Kate. It's really, really fun to read books with a friend and have the same !!! reactions to certain parts.

Hope you all have a superfun weekend! :)

TGIF!

Thoughts about Eclipse

Last night, I went to see ECLIPSE with Kate and Ross. We got to the theater around 11:50ish and it was already packed. We were almost about to leave because we didn't want to split up in the theater and three seats together were sooo not happening. Then, in a supersparkly way, three seats opened up in the front row. *freaks*

We grabbed the seats and the energy from the crowd was INTENSE. Screaming girls were all around and everyone was losing it. The majority of the midnight crowd at our theater? They were, without a doubt, Team Jacob. !!! Gotta admit, though, I was/am Team Edward, but ECLIPSE is my favorite book and it got me to a place of being torn between Jacob and Edward. It also was so well written as a possibility for a person (Bella) to be in love with two people.

The action in ECLIPSE was intense, the CGI was flawless (Edward's sparkle was fab), and I liked Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria. More romance and Jacob/Bella time was definitely lacking for me as were more talking/intimate moments between Edward and Bella since they were going back and forth about being engaged. This is an instance where I felt the book was better than the movie. But I still enjoyed it greatly and can't wait for it to come out on DVD. It actually made me want to reread ECLIPSE while the movie is fresh in my brain.

I hope everyone who wanted to see it last night made it to theaters! :) Major hearts to K for going out with me and R for being awesome about seeing another Twilight Saga flick.

I Tweeted pics about everything yesterday AND as if ECLIPSE coming out wasn't enough, Barnes & Noble has released CITY SECRETS!! Yaaay for Canterwood Crest #9!

Eclipse at midnight!!! :)

Just got back from the theater where I picked up three tickets for tonight's midnight showing of ECLIPSE. As long as the BFF is feeling up for a couple hours out, we're planning on hitting the show. I. Am. So. Freaking. Excited.

I've got my light blue "Team Edward" T-Shirt and Kate's wearing her "Team Jacob" shirt.

This is a superfun dream catcher keychain that came with my NEW MOON DVD. I offered it to Kate to match her shirt, but she just shook her head. I knew better than to ask if she'd like to use it, but I tried. :D Instead, I clipped it to my purse.

The theater is going to be CRAZY. It was superintense last time with guys and girls both getting into the vampires vs werewolves drama. There's lots of action in this movie, so I'm betting the girls will be dragging their secretly not-so-reluctant boyfriend along.
,
Will take pics of the insanity if possible . . . Happy ECLIPSE release and I hope that everyone who's going tonight has so much fun!

I. Am. So. Ready. For. Eclipse.

Anyone else getting *ridicuously* excited about ECLIPSE? I am about to fangirl out. Seriously. It's my fave book of the four and I'm soooo ready for the movie! I'll be going in my Team Edward t-shirt with the BFF in her Team Jacob shirt. Yep, we're besties who agree to disagree on teams. :)

Break night

(Or, a totally random post on how I'm relaxing tonight . . .)

Watching New Moon

Doing my nails in Essie's "Bachelorette Party"

Then, reading Shadow Kissed

After that, I've got a list to make of things that need to be done before my Utah trip with K. Lots of things on the list. Starting with, obvi, writing. But tonight's for taking a break.

Although . . .

I'm getting superexcited about next month's release of City Secrets. It's crazy to think that it'll be my *ninth* book on shelves. It'll definitely be time for book-stalking when CS releases.

Happy Tuesday!

Happy Saturday!

Happy weekend, Team Canterwood!

So sorry the blog has been quiet! My BFF has been in the hospital and feeling pretty awful, so it has been girl-time. We've been watching THE RICHES (adult content, please note), LAGUNA BEACH, GLEE, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, THE HILLS and a bunch of other fun stuff on DVD.

I just sorted through 600+ emails from you all and THANK YOU. I will respond as I'm able to and please know I read and appreciate every email. I love hearing from you! :)

The winner of the giveaway from Amanda Marrone is JOANNAH. I emailed you, girl, so look for that. :)

Off to work for a while. Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend!

And so I finally got . . .

Yep, I finally got it!! :)

My tattoo (still a little swollen) with Kate's

Ever since Kate got her tattoo about sixish months ago, I've been like, "I want one!" And we've had six months of conversation that goes something like this.

Me: I really want a tattoo.
K: You should get one!
Me: *feeling faint* Never mind! Don't want to talk about it!

A month later:

Me: I really want a tattoo.
K: I know. Let's talk about what it could be.
Me: *freaks at the thought of a needle* Ummm, later!

Sometime later:

Me: Okay, okay. Ideas?
K: What do you think of_______? (See above)
Me: OMG, and the font should be___________. (Above again)
Me: That's enough! Done! Don't want to talk about it!

And Kate put up with six months of 30 second or less conversations about my getting or not getting a tattoo. A couple of weeks ago, I was finally (with some serious convincing) able to look at fonts online and picked what I think is a gorgeous and lovely font. Then, I was like, la, la, la--I'll get... sometime.

But this Saturday turned out to be THE perfect day. Kate and I went to New York Adorned (one of the best tattoo places in NYC) and also the place where Kate got her tattoo. After paperwork and a half hour wait, I met my artist, Chad, who was funny and amazing. Shockingly, I was only a little nervous when over the past six months I would almost have a panic attack when I thought about getting a tattoo.

Kate held my hand the entire time and it took about 5 minutes. Tattoo? Done! Chris bandaged it up and three hours later, Kate took off the bandage and I had exactly what I wanted on my left wrist.

I'm proud that I was finally able to get it done and it's something I'll never regret having permanently on my body.

Conference craze

After an *insane* weekend of work, I've got a zillionish errands/things to do before leaving for Oklahoma City on Thursday morning with Kate. We're speaking together and separately at the Oklahoma Writers Federation Conference in OK City. Never been to OK, so should be fun!

I took the day off from work today and am doing so tomorrow except for a few minor things. Big huge thank you to Team Canterwood for sending e-mails, Tweets and Facebook messages about HOME SWEET DRAMA. You all ROCK! :) :) Tons of hearts!

Had a fun girls' night with Kate tonight. We took a gamble and dyed each other's hair. Turns out that we actually rocked it and we have a fun new color! It's still dark brown, but it has a hint of red and it feels very summery. People always think we're sisters and now we're like, "Yep. Gonna be getting that even more."

Time for Chinese food and a new GLEE episode!

Operation Teen Book Drop!

Remember to Rock the Drop today for Operation Teen Book Drop! (See yesterday's post for all the deets.)

I'll be leaving signed copies of Canterwood books around NYC--so fun! :) Maybe *you'll* find one!

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Find signed copies of Canterwood books!

I'm THRILLED to be participating in Operation Teen Book Drop tomorrow! So, my books aren't *technically* for teens, but I do have teen readers. And I'm putting my own spin on the program by making it an unofficial Operation Tween Book Drop. :)

Tomorrow, I'll be leaving autographed copies of TAKE THE REINS, CHASING BLUE and a few other books in the Canterwood series in various, random places in my neighborhood and in Manhattan. They'll also have a supercute Aladdin MIX postcard inside. You might find one on a park bench. Or the subway. Or a coffee shop. Or a picnic table. I'll be taking pics of drop off locations and posting them on my Twitter.

I'm encouraging YOU to do the same. Donate a book to a school, library or program that's in need of books for young readers. Huge thanks to Simon & Schuster for participating.

Happy OTBD! :)

weekend wrapup

Where did the weekend go, seriously? *scratches head*

Mine was busy with fun things, a little bit of work and hanging with BFF while we went to Macy's and got our nails done. It was kind of an we're (including R)-all-waiting-for-Monday couple of days. R was actually the one who convinced me to replace my ridic sneakers. So, Kate and I went to Macy's and petted shoes we couldn't afford if we combined our bank accounts. But we did find some killer heels and sneakers for K and two preeettty pairs of walking/exercising shoes for me. Kate and I decided we're going to start walking around our park soon (under the strict ruling that I'm somehow supposed to protect her from ALL nature.) and I sooo needed shoes. Pink and gray and pink and white Pumas. I heart them!

We hopped the train back home and later got our nails done. Now, this is soo picture worthy. I got mine done in honor of ALICE IN WONDERLAND in a shade called "Mad as a Hatter" by OPI.

Yes, it is an explosion of sparkles. Love. Love.

Must start writing now though I'm super distracted, so "working" might mean cleaning or mindless organizing. Or rewriting my to-do list for this INSANE month. But it's insane in a good way because it's something I'm really excited about--going to Florida (hello, 75 degrees!!) and presenting at a conference. Plus, BFF's coming and we're going to have fun. :)

Happy Monday!

Happy Friday!

Last night was awesome! Went to Madison Square Garden with Editor K and J.R. Angelella to see Kathy Griffin. I totally heart her show and it was the coolest thing to see her in person. Pics are on my Twitter feed and Facebook.

Back to writing now and prepping for a day-long writing marathon tomorrow. I'm superexcited about this book--it'll be the introduction of a new character, Brit, and there will be DRAMA! :)

Turned in one of my two articles, so I've got to finish the second one soonish and hand that in. The next few months are going to be a blur--going to Florida, Oklahoma and Utah for conferences. I'm not speaking in Utah--it'll actually be like a vacay! *gasp* Do not want to think about the last time I took an actual vacation. Ummm...? No clue. But the Florida trip gives me an excuse to shop--I need a swim suit as the fab hotel has an outdoor pool (likely going to be too cold), BUT there's also a whirlpool. Love.

Back to writing! Happy Friday everyone!

My friends know me well...

(PG, you are awesome!)

(Julia-thank you!!)

Woke up to these pics from friends for my birthday. PG obvi knows my love for RPattz and Julia must have had ESP and known I hadn't seen the Canterwood books on display on the Favorite Series shelf at B&N. Oh, snap!! That's sooo cool!

Today/tonight is going to be *awesome.*

Lunch in Midtown and then...likely live Tweeting as details unfold. :D V v excited to spend my first birthday in my apt with Team Awesome. <3

Bye, 22!

Wow. Today's my last day as a 22-year-old. I feel waaay older. But also very immature in some ways. (Like, my addiction to every flavor of lip gloss I can find...and, um, my love for all things Twilight...) :)

I'm superexcited about my birthday. Plans are set and I'm sensing an Epic Weekend.

Thanks so much to everyone who's already wished me happy birthday on Facebook, Twitter, etc. You guys are so sweet! <3

First snow pics!

Took a few pics from yesterday's snow. I think we're done with snow for a while, but I've gotta get snow boots. As I walked home yesterday, I was totally prepared to pull a Bella Swan and be like, "Ice really doesn't help the uncoordinated" when I wiped out. But I made it!

So. Much. Work. To. Do.

Going now!

Holidaze

Just a note to my reader girlies that the blog might be quiet for a little while. I'm going out of town for the holidays soon and CITY SECRETS is due early next month. Gotta get that draft done! :) I'm also super excited that LITTLE WHITE LIES comes out in 6 days. Can't wait to hear what you guys think!

I won't be responding to emails over the holidays (if I did, I wouldn't be able to finish my draft), BUT I will be blogging as I can. I hope you all are getting excited about the holidays!

What's on your wish list for this year? Spill!

Now, signing off for pizza and my fave show--How I Met Your Mother. :)

Counting down to Saddlehill Academy!

Hii, friends! I'm so very thrilled to remind everyone that NEXT MONTH (!!!) is the release of my first novel in eight years! Ahhhhh!!...
